Thomas Concrete has been named the 2025 Environmental Improvement Award Winner for its North Charleston Plant, recognizing the team’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and responsible operations. Over the past year, the plant has implemented several impactful initiatives that not only enhance environmental performance but also strengthen its connection to the surrounding community.

Recent improvements include a new settling pit solids management and water recycling system for drum rinse-out, with plans underway to integrate a carbon dioxide injection treatment system for full water reuse. A central dust collector has also been added to improve particulate control during mixer truck loadout, complementing existing Binvent systems already in use for silo operations. The plant installed a used-oil aboveground storage tank within newly constructed concrete containment, expanded the use of concrete block forms to better manage returned material, and continued its strong partnership with the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services.

Environmental compliance oversight remains in the hands of Thomas Concrete’s Sr. EHS Manager, Dennis Dzvonik; who not only brings deep professional expertise but also lives less than a mile from the plant. His involvement with local residents and the City of North Charleston underscores the company’s dedication to operating transparently and responsibly within the community.

Congratulations to Thomas Concrete, Inc. for leading the way in environmental stewardship across the ready-mix industry.
