There is not a significant amount of legislative activity to report at this time, as the General Assembly has not yet convened. The 2026 legislative session begins January 13, and leaders in both the House and Senate have made clear that transportation and infrastructure issues will be front and center once session gets underway.
The House DOT Modernization Ad Hoc Committee is meeting twice this week. The first meeting will focus on introducing draft legislation, followed by a second meeting to vote the proposal out of the Ad Hoc Committee. Formal introduction of the legislation is expected early next week. House leaders have been taking input from stakeholders including CRMCA and expect to move something earlier in the session. CRMCA continues to closely monitor these discussions and remains engaged in issues affecting the industry.
On Wednesday evening, CRMCA and its partners will host the Design–Construction Partnership Legislative Reception. We are expecting attendance from SCDOT leadership, House and Senate leadership, and members from both chambers, providing an important opportunity for direct engagement on industry priorities at the start of session.
Additionally, the Governor is releasing his proposed state budget January 12th, which includes more than $1 billion in funding for infrastructure investments. This proposal will set the tone for budget discussions in the coming weeks and will be an important indicator of the state’s commitment to transportation and infrastructure improvements.
CRMCA will continue to provide updates as legislative activity accelerates, and transportation-related proposals move forward.
