At the 2025 CRMCA Fall Workshop in Charlotte, NC, a brand new industry honor was presented for the first time. The Concrete Champion Award recognizes an individual whose passion, advocacy, and influence uplift the entire concrete community. It is fitting that the inaugural award was presented to someone who embodies concrete enthusiasm in every aspect of his life. Congratulations to Gordon Singletary of S & W Ready Mix Concrete Company, the 2025 Concrete Champion.

A Tireless Advocate for Concrete in Every Arena

Gordon has spent 20 years advancing the concrete industry, championing its value to architects, engineers, environmental groups, customers, and even schoolchildren. His advocacy spans everything from promoting concrete over asphalt in pavement design to converting projects from steel or wood to ICF building envelopes. Whether he is speaking at trade shows, presenting at construction conferences, or studying concrete applications during his world travels, Gordon is constantly finding ways to elevate the industry.

In coastal communities, his leadership plays a pivotal role in getting pervious concrete not only approved but specified in multiple counties. His ability to combine technical knowledge with persuasive communication has made him one of the most influential voices for sustainable, resilient concrete solutions in hurricane-prone areas.

Investing in Education and Community Impact

Gordon’s influence extends far beyond job sites and conference halls. He is deeply committed to educating the next generation of builders, engineers, and concrete professionals. At his local community college, he teaches ICF construction and installer classes, and each semester he opens plant operations and QC labs for student tours.

His reach spans from Virginia to Florida, where he has helped design and convert ICF projects that promote energy efficiency and durability. He has presented to school boards, universities, and organizations like Habitat for Humanity on the value of building with concrete. His message is consistent: concrete offers safety, sustainability, and strength that communities can rely on.

A Leader and Technical Resource for the Industry

Gordon serves as the CRMCA’s Pervious Technician and Installer Certification instructor and has been integral to the program since its inception. He regularly assists contractors across the Carolinas with troubleshooting, problem solving, and identifying stormwater solutions. Many projects that once seemed stalled or unviable found new life thanks to Gordon’s ability to present pervious concrete as a path forward.

His support of the industry spans technical training, promotion, and peer engagement. At CRMCA events, whether local concrete education classes or the statewide Fall Workshop, he is always ready to teach, host, present, or lend his expertise on any concrete-related topic. His passion ensures that everyone around him is better equipped to succeed.

A Champion in Every Sense

Perhaps what sets Gordon apart most is that he doesn’t just work in the concrete industry — he lives it. On weekends, he spends time experimenting with concrete figurines, new colors, decorative techniques, and innovative repairs. His enthusiasm is unmatched.

This year, he organized and hosted a Concrete Expo in Myrtle Beach, drawing more than 150 attendees for seminars, hands-on demonstrations, and industry networking. Attendees traveled from hours away to learn from him, and the event showcased his ability to bring people together to celebrate all things concrete. With a vision to grow the Expo each year, Gordon continues to push the industry forward.

A Well Deserved First Recipient

Within the concrete and construction community, you would be hard pressed to find someone more dedicated, motivated, or passionate than Gordon. His work ethic, advocacy, creativity, and leadership make him the perfect choice for this inaugural honor.

We proudly celebrate Gordon Singletary as the 2025 Concrete Champion, a title earned through decades of unwavering enthusiasm for the material that builds our communities.
