Carolinas Ready Mixed Concrete Association and Habitat Charlotte Region Team Up to Build Stronger Affordable Homes
ICF construction delivers resilient, sustainable, and energy efficient results for Habitat homeowners

March 14, 2022

Charlotte, NC – Carolinas Ready Mixed Concrete Association (CRMCA) announced its partnership with Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region to sponsor the foundation construction for one of the Habitat affiliate’s affordable homes. Using a method called Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) to create the foundation and perimeter walls of the home yields increased strength, sustainability, and energy efficiency.

“We are extremely proud to be partnering with Habitat for Humanity Charlotte Region on the construction of the first Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) Habitat home in the Carolinas,” states Jessica Palmer, Director of Business Development and Education for the Carolinas Ready Mixed Concrete Association. “We have worked closely together on this initiative to not only educate the staff, but to also train the crews and workforce on a more sustainable, affordable, durable and energy efficient means of constructing safer structures for the community and homeowners.”

We are overwhelmed by the support of our members and their commitment to see this project succeed.  As an industry, knowing the true benefits and value of concrete and how this construction method will impact both the family living in this home and the community has truly rallied our membership base around this project, said Caroline Sutton, Executive Director for the Carolinas Ready Mixed Concrete Association.

“We are excited to work with Carolinas Ready Mixed Concrete Association on this affordable home project,” said Bob Glusenkamp, VP of Construction at Habitat Charlotte Region. “This partnership marks the first time Habitat Charlotte Region will use Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) technology in the construction of one of our homes. The enhanced durability and energy efficiency yielded through this innovative construction method will ensure a safe, strong and stable home for this new owner.”

Located just outside of downtown Charlotte, construction of the home began with the pouring of the foundation on February 21st.  The walls will be stacked on February 25th and the concrete will be poured on March 11th.
