Great Times Had By All at the CRMCA Summer Convention
CRMCA Members made the beautiful Grove Park Inn home for a few days earlier this month with a record breaking CRMCA Summer Convention. Upon arrival, attendees were greeted with a conference bag compliments of Holcim our Welcome Sponsor.
The conference got under way with our opening Past Presidents Reception which was sponsored by Argos, GCP Applied Technologies, National Cement and Roanoke Cement Company. We were honored to have a few of our Past Presidents in attendance, pictured below: D. This year’s new Environmental Awards were sponsored by Resource Management Associates and presented by Doug Ruhlin. The Environmental Excellence award for the category of 1 – 10 trucks was presented to S & W Ready Mix Concrete for their Castle Hayne Plant. The award for 10 plus trucks category was presented to Concrete Supply for their Mooresville Plant. The Environmental Improvement Award went to S & W Ready Mix Concrete for their Goldsboro Plant.
Education opportunities for both Friday and Saturday were sponsored by Martin Marietta and The SEFA Group. Topics covered Engaging Your Team in a Customer Service Culture, Technology at Human Scale, Life Cycle Cost Analysis & Pavement Management Asset Systems as well as Emerging Mega Trends in Concrete Sustainability.
Friday’s golf event was held at the Grove Park Country Club with 18 teams vying to be this year’s champions. This year’s winning team consisted of Chris Liner, Drew Turner, Chad Eyster and Scott Gibbes. Our second place team included Randy Buchanan, Billy Buchanan, Steve Bruce, and Blake Crowder. Finally our third place team was Rick Robarge, Bart Jones, Cliff Hicks, and Marty Reinfeld.

This year, two new members were inducted into the CRMCA Concrete Hall of Fame. Tom Chandler and George Turner joined Bill Arent, Jim Barnes, Carol Yoder and Jerry Smeltzer in the Hall of Fame which honors individuals each year for their contributions to the concrete industry in the Carolinas. Ted Chandler introduced his father while Jay Loftin introduced George to the CRMCA members during the Saturday Night Gala.
