On April 29, the CRMCA proudly participated in the WNC Construction Careers Day, held at the Smokey Mountain Event Center in Waynesville, North Carolina. The event welcomed more than 600 students from 12 counties across Western North Carolina, all eager to explore careers in construction and the skilled trades.

Hosted by the Land of Sky Regional Council, this annual event provides a hands-on, immersive opportunity for students to interact directly with industry professionals, equipment, and career pathways they might not otherwise be exposed to. CRMCA’s presence featured a ready-mix concrete truck provided by Southern Concrete Materials, giving students the chance to see up close how concrete plays a vital role in the built environment and what it’s like to work in the industry.

Beyond showcasing the concrete industry, CRMCA is committed to creating meaningful connections that extend well beyond a single event. Through ongoing workforce development initiatives, the association is actively working to strengthen communication with Career & Technical Education teachers across the Carolinas. By fostering these relationships, CRMCA aims to serve as a bridge between educators, students, and local concrete producers.

CRMCA also encourages and supports its member companies to engage with their communities—especially at the student level. Whether it’s through classroom visits, plant tours, hands-on workshops, or career day participation, we believe that early exposure to the industry is key to cultivating the workforce of tomorrow.

As the construction sector continues to face labor shortages, events like the WNC Construction Careers Day are vital in helping students understand the vast and rewarding opportunities that exist within the field. CRMCA remains dedicated to building these connections, inspiring future talent, and supporting members as they invest in the next generation.
