Pervious Concrete Trainings offered in 2023

The CRMCA is pleased to offer the NRMCA
Pervious Concrete Technician Certification Class

The industry standards for pervious concrete are found in the documents published by the American Concrete Institute (ACI):

  • 522R – “Report on Pervious Concrete”, and
  • 522.1 – “Specification for Pervious Concrete Pavement”

Both of these documents provide guidance, direction and criteria for design and construction of pervious concrete mixtures, pavements, infiltration systems and construction practices.  Also included in the Specification are criteria that contractors and testing technicians must meet.  These requirements are:

  • For contractors, according to ACI 522.1 – “The Contractor shall employ no less than one NRMCA Certified Pervious Concrete Craftsman who must be on site, overseeing each placement crew during all concrete placement, or the Contractor shall employ no less than three NRMCA Certified Pervious Concrete Installers, who shall be on site working as members of each placement crew during all concrete placement unless otherwise specified.”
  • For testing technicians, according to ACI 522.1 – “Field tests of concrete shall be performed by an individual certified as both an NRMCA Certified Pervious Concrete Technician or equivalent and an ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician-Grade 1 or equivalent.”

The NRMCA Pervious Concrete Technician Certification is a required step in becoming a NRMCA Pervious Concrete Certified Installer.  Note this Class is for the Technician Certification level only.  Contractors are encouraged to further pursue performing the necessary requirements to become a Certified Installer. ACI Field Grade 1 Training & Review Courses Scheduled for 2023

The CRMCA is excited to announce a new in-person training and review option for individuals wishing to prepare for the ACI Field Grade 1 Exam and Performance Exam.  This course provides in-person training which will teach and review the materials covered in the written and performance examinations for the ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade Level 1 as described below:

“Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly mixed concrete.”

Persons preparing for these exams should also obtain and study the publication that is used as the primary text reference for these certifications. Copies of this book may be obtained by contacting ACI Carolinas directly.  Please note this course is for training and review purposes and does not cover the in-person written exam and performance exam.  We recommend using the course book along with the review materials presented in this course prior to your testing date.  To sign up for the written exam and performance exam you will need to go through ACI Carolinas here.

This training is provided by the Carolinas Ready Mixed Concrete Association and the written exam and performance exam are provided by ACI Carolinas via separate registration.
