At the CRMCA Fall Workshop in Charlotte, NC, an extraordinary leader in the ready-mix industry was recognized for his decades of dedication. Clavon Wiggins, Plant Manager for Concrete Supply Company, was awarded North Carolina Plant Manager of the Year, a well deserved honor reflecting nearly 40 years of leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

A Leader Defined by Integrity, Professionalism, and Unmatched Commitment
Few individuals make the kind of lasting impression that Clavon does. Those who work with him describe him as someone whose professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine care for people stand out immediately. His leadership has shaped not only the plants he manages but also the people who have had the privilege to learn from him.
Clavon’s journey is marked by excellence at every turn. Early on at the Pershing Road Plant in downtown Raleigh, his dedication was clear. Despite operating an facility with complex moving parts like a pressurized ash silo and a rail car cement unload, he manages it with patience, precision, and a positive outlook. He never hesitates to take plant samples himself to verify mix compliance. For Clavon, quality starts at the source, and he leads by example.
On his batch panel sits a plaque that reads “God First, Concrete Second.” Those who know him say this mantra is not just words but a way of life. His attitude remains steady and positive even when challenges arise, and he inspires others through his work ethic and humility.
A Mentor Dedicated to Growing People and Strengthening Communities
Clavon’s impact reaches far beyond operational excellence. He is deeply committed to developing the next generation of ready mix professionals. He nurtures and mentors younger drivers and yard staff, patiently teaching those who want to advance and always encouraging them to do their best.
Drivers trust him and look up to him. Many long time customers still call him directly, even with centralized dispatching in place. They value his attention to detail and the care he puts into every load delivered from his plant.
Outside of work, Clavon continues to lead through service. As a minister at his church, he brings the same grace, humility, and genuine compassion to his community. His goal is always to leave a lasting impact on those he interacts with, whether through concrete or through faith.
A Story That Shows His Character
During an annual inspection at the Apex facility, an inspector accidentally broke a water tank valve on one of the trucks. Embarrassed and apologizing repeatedly, the inspector expected frustration. Instead, Clavon calmly reassured him that accidents happen and it was just part of doing the job. He took the situation in stride, got the issue fixed, and even followed up the next day with a call to let him know everything was taken care of.
That moment captured who Clavon is. Patient. Understanding. Forgiving. A leader whose character shines even brighter than his expertise.
A Well Deserved Honor for Four Decades of Service
As Clavon nears retirement, the ready mix industry reflects on a career defined by excellence, mentorship, and genuine humanity. His influence extends across teams, customers, and entire organizations, and his leadership has set a standard few can match.
We are proud to celebrate Clavon Wiggins as the NC Plant Manager of the Year and to recognize his 40 years of outstanding service to the ready mix industry. This honor is not just an award but a tribute to an exceptional career and an exceptional person.
